This isn't really a question, but it is a frequent concern. Depending on your field, you may have to be flexible with setting and/or location. That said, jobs come and go frequently. We know several companies that will directly call sites in specific locations in order to help create contracts where there are none. We are also available to help you search. As a traveling trio (PT, OT, SLP) we have to work diligently to find contracts in the same areas .
We can, but in all honesty, recruiters come and go. It is more important that as a traveler, you learn to vet recruiters and advocate for what you are looking for in a position. If your recruiter is pressuring you and not working collaboratively with you, find another.
Most people will point you to a company that gives them referral bonuses regardless of the quality of the company. We are happy to give you our take on the pros and cons of actually working for different companies.
If you are confident in your competency, or your ability to learn quickly, you will not likely need any special training or mentorship in order to delve into travel therapy. Asking the right questions (to your recruiter, and to the site that interviews you) will help you improve the chances of landing a great contract.
A tax home is (generally speaking) your place of business. Where you live and work when not on traveling assignments. In order to qualify for tax-free stipends, you must be able to duplicate expenses (in tax-home, and in the location you are traveling in).
This could be done by paying rent in two locations, or contributing toward utilities and other expenses in your tax home, and paying rent while on contracts.
After 12 months out of a 24 month period in one site, this location would be generally considered your new tax home. For this reason, you cannot simply return home between travel contracts in one region, and instead must actually travel to a new location. The new location must be outside of a "reasonable commute". That definition is broad, but is typically considered around 50 miles from your prior location.
